PIFS, The World Wildlife Fund and the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions jointly sponsored the innagural Forest Carbon Finance Summit 2009 in Washington, DC.  The Summit drew together seventy senior executives, policy experts, investors, as well as legal and financial leaders in an “off the record” offsite meeting to enable frank engagement on whether and how the carbon markets can be useful to channel the required sums of capital to the forest countries to enable and encourage those countries to reduce emissions from deforestation.  More...

THE PRINCIPALS

Hal S. Scott     Director
Hal Scott is the Nomura Professor of International Financial Systems. He has been at the Law School since 1975. A specialist in international banking and securities markets, his publications address Europe's economic and monetary union, international securities and banking regulation, capital adequacy, and Asian money and capital markets.

Prior to joining the Program on International Financial Systems, Dan served as Special Assistant to the President of the United States and Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison.  In this capacity, Dan served as a key link to the American business community on policy and legislative issues on behalf of the White House, including on matters relating to taxes, trade, regulation, and competitiveness issues.

Robin Radin     Associate Director
Robin Radin was managing director and general counsel for Asia Pacific of CS First Boston based in Tokyo and Hong Kong from 1992-95 and chief counsel for Asia of Morgan Stanley from 1987-92. A practicing lawyer since 1979, he previously taught Asian history, specializing in modern Japan.

Donald P. Kanak

Donald P. Kanak      Senior Fellow
Donald P. Kanak is Chairman (non executive) of Prudential Corporation Asia, Asia regional headquarters, and part of Prudential Group (United Kingdom). He is a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Law School, Program on International Financial Systems. His research is focused on climate change policy, with a focus on solutions for reducing deforestation and degradation of natural forests (REDD) and financial frameworks for achieving climate objectives.  He is also Chairman of WWF's global Forest Carbon Initiative which aims to reduce deforestation as an essential part of a solution to climate change.
