Harvard Law School’s Program on International Financial Systems, Getulio Vargas Foundation, Pontificia Universidad Católica, and Escuela de Graduados en Administración y Dirección de Empresas of Tecnologico de Monterrey are pleased to announce the inception of the annual Symposium on Building the Financial System of the 21st Century: A Dialogue Between Latin America and the United States. The invitation-only event is designed to facilitate discussion between leaders of the financial systems in Latin America and the United States.
Founded in 1986, the Program on International Financial Systems (PIFS) conducts the highest quality international research and provides an international forum for exchange of ideas through symposia like the forthcoming one between Latin America-U.S. PIFS aims to give public policy advice to governments and educate international lawyers. The Symposium Report, a summary of the topics and findings discussed by the symposium participants, is one way that PIFS fulfills these goals.
Harvard University will serve as the setting for this inaugural symposium and it will be held from Friday evening June 13 through lunch on Sunday June 15, 2008 on the campus of the Law School.
The event will foster an interchange of ideas and information between Latin America and U.S. financial and business experts about financial, economic and regulatory topics affecting both markets. Keynote speakers from the U.S. Treasury and other U.S. government agencies and their Latin American counterparts, as well as prominent business leaders, will be invited to deliver keynote addresses to participants.
This year’s Symposium will address the following topics:

Global Financial Stability — The Impact and Control of the Liquidity and Credit Crises
The Role of Private Pools of Capital in the Latin American/U.S. Capital Markets
Participants will be equally divided between Latin America and the U.S. for two days of intensive, off-the-record discussions. The topics are presented by panelists and each presentation is followed by break-out sessions of smaller groups where participants will exchange views with senior representatives from Latin America and the U.S.
