2008 SPIF Timeline
Step 1: The online SPIF Application was due on December 14, 2007. If you missed the deadline but still wish to participate in SPIF you must contact the SPIF office directly.
Step 2: Secure a SPIF eligible position for the summer of 2008.
Step 3: Complete the online SPIF Response Form by April 4, 2008.
Step 4: Have your employer complete and submit the Employer Response Form(PDF) by April 4, 2008. If you would like to use your SPIF job to meet the Pro Bono requirement, your employer must complete both Part I and Part II of this form.
Step 5: In early April, you will receive notification of your SPIF award. Once you are awarded you are required to attend a mandatory meeting regarding the requirements of the program; the dates and locations of these meetings are available here. Additionally, please drop off a voided check at our office so we can attempt to have your award direct deposited (NB - for tax purposes we cannot have the awards of non-US residents who are working internationally direct deposited).
Step 6: Stipend checks will be available in early May for those students who have completed the above steps (and their 6 hours of Auction volunteer time, if necessary) by April 4, 2008. We are only able to request checks ONCE A MONTH, so while you will remain eligible for SPIF funds, there will be delays in funding for those students who miss these deadlines.
Step 7: Please notify us of your summer contact information as soon as you know your summer location by completing the SPIF Summer Contact Information Form. Additionally, we will also need your Emergency Contact Information.
Step 8: Throughout the summer students must submit their hours weekly via the SPIF Weekly Time Reporting Form.
Step 9: At the completion of your SPIF placement you will need to do the following:
- All SPIF recipients must complete a Student Placement Evaluation regarding their summer placement. You will receive email notification about this evaluation at the end of the summer. Due August 31, 2008.
- All SPIF recipients must submit a Time Log (PDF) signed by their employer, verifying the number of hours they worked. This form is available online and email reminders will be sent throughout the summer. Due September 12, 2008.
- Students who wish to receive Pro Bono credit for their SPIF placement must also submit a signed Supervisor Evaluation (PDF). Due September 12, 2008.
REMINDER: 1Ls must work 6 hours on the Public Interest Auction fundraising initiative to qualify for funding. If you have questions regarding the Auction, please email auction@law.harvard.edu.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding SPIF you may email the SPIF staff or call (617) 495-0643.
