Please read all of the following BEFORE submitting the 2008-2009 Incoming LL.M./S.J.D. On-Campus Housing Application.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The housing lottery application will be available online beginning Wednesday, April 16, 2008 and will close at 4:00pm EST (GMT-5) on Friday, May 2, 2008.
There are three phases to the online application process. First, applicants must complete the 2007-2008 Incoming LL.M./S.J.D. On-Campus Housing Application online to be included in the random housing lottery number drawing. Next, if applicants want to be included in a group to be able to select rooms close to one another they must visit the group tool website between Wednesday, May 7, 2008 and Friday, May 9, 2008 to enter the names of their group members.
Finally, applicants will receive an email containing their lottery number on Monday, May 12, 2008. Those with lottery numbers less than 85 will have the ability to select a room online on between Wednesday, May 14, 2008 and Friday, May 16, 2008. Those with lottery numbers greater than 85 will be placed on a wait-list.
Final confirmation of room assignments will be emailed to applicants by Tuesday, May 20, 2008.
If you have any questions about the housing lottery or the application process, please contact the Dean of Students Office at hlsdorms@law or at 617.495.1880.
ELIGIBILITY
All students who will be fully enrolled at HLS and who want to live on campus in the dormitories during the 2008-2009 academic year are eligible to enter the lottery. You don't need to submit your deposit to the HLS Graduate Admissions Office before submitting an application for the dormitories.
HLS dormitory housing is for individual students and all dormitory rooms are for single occupancy.
Please note that it is acceptable to submit an application for both the on-campus housing in the dormitories and Harvard Affiliated Housing.
DEADLINE
In order to be assigned a lottery number, the completed application forms must be submitted online by 16:00 EST (GMT-5), on Friday, May 2, 2008. Applicants who submit the application after the deadline will be placed on the waitlist. Applicants with disabilities seeking accommodations should contact Cathleen Segal at csegal@law or at 617.495.1880.
HOUSING GROUPS
Applicants who are interested in selecting rooms close to one another may enter the lottery as a group of up to four students. Applicants in groups will be assigned consecutive lottery numbers. In order to be considered a group, each applicant must enter the online Group Tool between 12:00 EST (EMT-5) on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 and 16:00 EST (GMT-5) on Friday, May 9, 2008 and confirm the members of the group. All members of the group must confirm their participation through the online form before the group will be successfully formed. Applicants will be notified of their group formation by email. Housing groups are not requried and they do not enhance the chances of securing a lottery number lower than 85.
LOTTERY PROCESS
All applicants will be assigned a random lottery number on Monday, May 12, 2008 and notified via email. Room selection will take place online between Wednesday, May 14, 2008 12:00 EST (GMT-5) and Friday, May 16, 2008 16:00 EST (GMT-5). Applicants who receive a lottery number of 85 or lower will be eligible to select a room online. Applicants with a lottery number higher than 85 will be placed on the waiting list. Detailed instructions about the online room selection form will be included in the email containing your lottery number. During the room selection process, applicants will be given an eight hour period to select a room based on their lottery number.
Floor plans indicating rooms and building layouts are available on the HLS Dormitory Housing website. Applicants should familiarize themselves with these prior to the beginning of the lottery in order to assist in the decision-making process.
WAIT-LIST
Applicants with a lottery number of 86 or higher will be placed on a wait-list, as will applicants with a lottery number below 85 who did not login and select a room during the room selection window. In June, after Harvard Commencement, we will begin reaching out to those on the wait-list to fill open rooms. If you are placed on the wait-list but find alternate housing and no longer wish to be considered, please inform the HLS Dean of Students Office via e-mail at hlsdorms@law.
RESIDENCY
The HLS dormitory residency period for LL.M.s and S.J.D.s is Monday, August 18, 2008 through Friday, June 5, 2009, unless otherwise stated in their dormitory license, specifically North residents will need to move the day after exams conclude to a room in Gropius to enable some mechanical upgrade work in the summer '09.
Residents who wish to change rooms or leave the dorms during the year should contact the Dean of Students Office at hlsdorms@law. Requests will be considered on a monthly basis.
