Checklist
- Let us know when you plan to move out by completing this brief 2-question poll. We will use the results to identify the busiest move-out days in order to book parking spaces along Mass Ave for North and Hastings and Everett St for Gropius.
- Remove all of your belongings from your room.
- Clean your room and discard all trash.
- Restore furniture to the original configuration.
- Complete the Summer Mail Forwarding Request Form.
- Return your keys to the Holmes Mail Center in the envelope provided in your mail box. (Do not leave them in your room or mail box or with a friend or R.A.)
- Sign the bottom of the Move-Out Door Hanger provided in your mail box and place it on your hallway doorknob when you move out.
Cleaning Out Your Room
You should leave your room as you found it at the beginning of the academic year. Blue trash bags will be left on every floor for you to dispose of any items you do not want to take with you when you move out. Once you have filled the bags, you may leave them outside your door in the hallway and the custodial staff will collect them.
Comcast Equipment Return
Comcast will be on campus in the covered patio between Story Hall and the Hark on Friday, May 9th, Friday, May 16th and Friday, June 6th from 10:00am to 3:00pm to pick up cable boxes. If you have no equipment to return, you can simply call 1-800-COMCAST to cancel your service.
Comcast will assess the following penalties to accounts for unreturned equipment:

Donating Items
Donation stations will be set up at HLS from May 1st to June 6th. Instead of throwing it in the trash, please drop it off in one of the stations: outside between Hark & Story, North Hall Lobby, inside the Hark.
Examples:
-Books, textbooks, office supplies (even partially-used)
-Dorm supplies such as storage crates, fans, bulletin boards, cinder blocks, bricks and lumber
-Dishes, cups and silverware
-Rugs and mirrors
-Clothing and shoes (tied together), athletic equipment, toys
-Unopened dry food (canned goods, boxed pasta, microwaveables)
-Unfinished bottles of laundry detergent, shampoo, household cleaners, and cosmetics
-Computers and parts, printers and other electronics
Donations will be sold during the fall "Stuff Sale" that benefits Habitat for Humanity and other non-profits. If you have any questions, please ask your Green Living Rep or email krystal_noiseux@harvard.edu.
Hastings Gate
The Hastings Gate will be open beginning Tuesday, May 6, 2008 and extending through the graduating student move-out date, Friday, June 6, 2008. Please note that while you can drive a car into the courtyard area, you cannot drive a box truck as it will not fit through the gate. Please do not park on the grass or sidewalk.
Key Return
It is essential that you return your key before you leave campus. Key return envelopes will be distributed to your mail boxes the week of August 28th. Please put your name, building and room number on the envelope. You may return your keys to the Holmes Mail Center, Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. You may also return your keys to the drop box located outside to the left of the west entrance of Holmes Hall (facing the Hark). Please do not leave your keys in your room or mailbox or with a friend or your R.A. Students who do not return their keys will be charged $15 per key. (Note - Residents of North and Hastings must also return their mail keys.)
Mail Forwarding
The HLS Holmes Mail Center will forward any first class mail (bills and personal letters) Non-first class mail (magazines and junk mail) that arrives during the summer will be discarded. Forwarding begins once you have returned your keys and lasts until August 31, 2008. Graduating students should note that your mail forwarding will also end on August 31st. All first class mail received after this date will be returned to the sender. Once you move out you should notify any organizations, companies or pople who will be sending you mail of your new address.Please note that completing the change of address form with the U.S.P.S. will not work, so you must complete the form below in order for your mail to be forwarded. If you do not complete this form, your mail will be returned to sender. You will not be able to stop by the Holmes Mail Center during the summer to pick it up.

Shipping Belongings Home
The U.S. Post Office will be on campus on Friday, May 9th, Friday, May 16th and Friday, June 6th from 10:00am-3:00pm to fulfill your shipping needs. You can also purchase packaging supplies such as boxes and tape. Priority and Express Mail cartons will be provided free of charge when you ship your items Priority or Express Mail.You can also ship via UPS, although this will require a little bit more coordination on your part. UPS will pick packages up from the Holmes Mail Center that have already been scheduled for pick-up, are paid for and have a UPS shipping label/bar code on it.
- Pack the box.
- Borrow a scale from the Holmes Mail to weigh the box.
- Go online to UPS.com to pay for your shipping and schedule the pick-up.
- Print a shipping label/bar code and adhere it to the box.
- Bring the box to the Holmes Mail Center. UPS will not pick the box up at your dorm room.
Storage
Limited on-campus storage space is available for students who will be living in the dorms in the fall. All items must be tagged with the official Facilities Management labels and must include your name and current dorm address. These labels are available at the Holmes Mail Center. You may store a maximum of three boxes. All storage is done at your own risk, so please do not store valuable items such as computers and TVs in the storage areas. Harvard Law School and Harvard University are not responsible for the items that you store. Items that are not properly labeled will be discarded. You can access the storage units by picking up a key from the Holmes Mail Center or by contacting your R.A. (You will be asked to leave your HUID until you return the key.) Students who are not returning to on-campus housing for 2008-2009 or are not on the returning student wait list for on-campus housing for 2008-2009 must remove their belongings when they move out.
- Items must be placed in boxes (except for refrigerators and suitcases).
- All boxes, refrigerators and suitcases must be labeled with the 2008-2009 storage sticker, which can be obtained at the Holmes Mail Center.
- The largest box allowed is 19" x 21" x 32".
- Furniture and bicycles are not permitted.
- All items must fit on or under the storage room shelves and the aisle must remain clear to allow access to the storage room.
- Please remember to close and lock the storage room when you leave.
Please note that PODS, Door-To-Door and other types of container storage cannot be used by residents of the HLS on-campus housing, as there is no place to place these containers, even for limited times.
