Ladies in Red, Men in Black Annual Valentine’s Day Party, February 12, 2003. The Alliance of Independent Feminists invited all of its members to a spectacular Valentine's Party, where delicious desserts and beverages and enjoyable entertainment abounded!

pin button Clint Bolick, October 16, 2002. AIF in conjunction with the Federalist Society hosted Clint Bolick, Vice-President of the Institute for Justice. Mr. Bolick brought his dynamic energy and passion for improved educational opportunities for all to a crowd of 70+ students. Mr. Bolick discussed his work--stretching over decade--as an advocate for school choice, which culminated with a victory this past summer in the US Supreme Court, where the Court upheld the constitutionality of the Cleveland Scholarship Program (Zelman v. Simmons-Harris).

pin button School Choice Discussion Group, October 15, 2002. In connection with the school choice lecture AIF sponsored a discussion on an article by Peter Ferrara from the National Review Online. The article, titled "Prepare for the Empire to Strike Back: The Zelman Decision," provided helpful background for the Bolick presentation.

pin button Women Dating Down, September 17, 2002. Our monthly wine and cheese discussion series was a huge success, with large attendance and a humorous, lively and thought-provoking debate. Our catalyst was an article written by Stanley Kurtz of the National Review, entitled "Don't Take Your Daughters To Work." Click here to read the article online!

flowers picture AIF Year End Party, May 2, 2002. When AIF has a party, we do it right. The central culinary delight of this event was a range of over 30 international cheeses, which our guests enjoyed sampling while sipping wine, champagne, or cocktails. A huge success, which promises even more in years to come!

Ms. Stolba is a senior fellow at the Independent Women's Forum and co-author of An Illustrated Guide to the Economic Progress of Women in America (1999) and The Feminist Dilemma: When Success is Not Enough (2001). She spoke on the role of women and feminist studies in academia.

pin button Elizabeth Warren lecture, February 28, 2002. Harvard Law School Professor Elizabeth Warren offered us her intriguing perspective on the effects of bankrupcy on women.

pin button Elizabeth Fox-Genovese discussion, October 12, 2001. In preparation for Ms. Genovese's visit, we read and discussed an exerpt from her book, Feminism Is Not the Story of My Life : How Today's Feminist Elite Has Lost Touch With the Real Concerns of Women. Ms. Genovese later had to cancel her visit, but we remain hopeful that she will be our guest next year. To learn more about Ms. Genovese and her extraordinary accomplishments, please click here.

pin button Champagne and Strawberries Garden Party, May 6, 2001. AIF celebrated its first official term with a spectacular and delicious end-of-the-year bash!

pin button Movie and Margaritas, March 18, 2003. AIF ladies took the night off on a trip to Harvard Square to see “The Hours,” which draws on the life and work of Virginia Woolf. Afterwards we enjoyed a great evening of discussion over margaritas at Border Café.

pin button The Novel "I Don't Know How She Does It: The Life of Kate Reddy, Working Mother" Discussion Group, February 11, 2003. AIF dove into a funny and popular novel and discussed such questions as: Does working mother equal bad mother? Is the answer to quit and stay home? Is that really what Allison Pearson is saying in her first book? And if so, why has this book sold so well?

pin button Sister Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz and "The Genius of Women: A Nun’s View", November 6, 2002. Sister Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz, of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist , offered her unique perspective on what makes men and women so different and why those differences are important to all of us. Rare is the occasion for Harvard Law School students to hear a nun present her views on gender. Outside donations covered the entire cost of this event.

pin button Women's Dessert Party, September 27, 2002. This feast was a huge success with many delicious delights. The winner of the baking competition was a superb margueritta cheesecake by Cameron Casey, with the runner ups being a raspberry Oreo cookie tarte and and creme brule, both made by Amanda Gregory. In one night, this excellent event became an instant tradition.
