Our History

About HALS

The Harvard Asia Law Society (HALS) is a student organization of the Harvard Law School. We bring together students and faculty members with an interest in Asia and its legal cultures, whether that interest be academic, professional, or experiential. HALS organizes numerous events throughout the year for JD and LLM students and scholars who are interested in Asian practice and development issues. Our events include lectures from legal scholars and legal professionals, movie viewings, Asian food events, and our annual conference and trip.

Members can also keep up their skills in an Asian language by joining one of our weekly foreign language tables. Every year we work in conjuction with student organizations at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School to organize the Asia Business Conference, the largest Asia-focused business conference in North America. We also organize annually a Spring Break Delegation through which our members visit an Asian country to learn about its professional legal culture, its academic legal culture, and its legal system.
