An Extremely Brief History of HALS

On April 18, 1996 the original HALS Constitution was officially submitted to the Dean of Students Office at Harvard Law School, officially establishing the Harvard Asia Law Society. Today, HALS is one of the largest student groups at Harvard Law School. It is still the only group at the law school that brings together students with a common interest in academic and cultural issues across Asia. HALS alumni span major cities of Asia and the United States, leaving their marks in legal practice and business, academia and government.

Alumni Regstriation

HALS alumni are some of the greatest sources of knowledge and insipration for current HALS members. At the same time, HALS is committed to support its alumni network by organizing events throughout the world and by keeping the alumni informed about exciting news.

Please take a minute to fill out this short form to keep in touch with other HALS members and alumni, or to hear about HALS alumni events.

Online HALS Yearbooks - Help Needed from Alumni!

A new project is underway to collect past stories and photos of HALS so as to produce a proper history of HALS from the beginning to now. To get started, we have culled information from past Conference brochures, some of which have sat in the HALS office in the basement of the Ames building for more than a decade. We are adding information from other sources as they become available.

We hope this little history writing project can further strengthen the wonderful alumni community and inspire newer members of HALS. To that end, we would love to talk to each HALS alumnus! Please share with us your thoughts and stories, write a few words on any related topic, or just say hi. Both Gail (tsu@jd10.law) and Song (syue@jd10.law) would love to correspond by email or talk to you.
