“ In order to get beyond race, we must first take account of racism.”
Regents of Univ. of Cal. v. Bakke , 1978.

BLJ was originally founded as an internal publication of the Black Law Students Association, and has grown into an independent annual journal committed to publishing manuscripts that address social and economic issues affecting African Americans and other minorities, as well as publishing innovative works by minority scholars and students. The upcoming Volume 24 will publish pieces discussing, among other topics, public school desegregation, affirmative action in higher education, voting rights, race discrimination in hair salons, and the slavery-related origins of the American tax system.

BLJ recently co-sponsored a symposium entitled 'Race Across Boundaries,' which took a global approach in comparing and relating racial and ethnic tensions abroad to those experienced in the United States."
