To this end, they created an organization that was committed to preparing students to creatively and intelligently use the law in the service of the environment. Since HELS's founding, the field of environmental law has been ever-changing, but the organization’s central mission remains the same: to strengthen the capacity of its members to make real contributions to the field of environmental law -- and to the environment itself -- in the local, national and international communities. ^top Join Us What is HELS? The Harvard Environmental Law Society (HELS) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization directed and staffed by students at Harvard Law School. We organize a variety of events related to environmental law, from lectures and conferences to whale-watching trips and barbeques. We look not only the legal side of environmental issues, but also at the policy, science and management aspects that all environmental professionals should understand. And of course, we have a great time in the process and organize the best trips and social events on campus. What will HELS do this year? We have an exciting year ahead, and we invite you participate in any or all of our events. We also welcome your ideas for new events and trips. The following are some of the things HELS will do in 2005-06: - Hike, whale-watch, and go on other outings;
- Hold barbeques, beer-tastings, and other social events;
- Travel to conferences in Oregon, California, New York and DC;
- Participate in the development of HLS’s new Environmental Law Program;
- Host a variety of exciting environmental speakers, from practitioners to Senators;
