Tuesday, March 16, 2004 Harvard Federalist Society Distinguished Alumni Series honors Rachel Brand Kicking off our Distinguished Alumni Series, we were pleased to honor Rachel Brand. Ms. Brand has been the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Policy of the United States Department of Justice since July 27, 2003. In this position, she assists with the development and implementation of a variety of civil and criminal policy initiatives, the President’s judicial nominations, and the management of the Office. She focuses particularly on issues related to the war on terrorism. Rachel previously served as an Associate Counsel to the President in the White House and, prior to that, was associated with the law firm Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal. Before that, Rachel clerked for Charles Fried on the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on the United States Supreme Court. This year five of our members discussed their strategies and methods for studying, outlining, practice exams, and the exams themselves -- with advice individually tailored to many 1L professors. Friday, November 21, 2003 Dinner with Ted Cruz, Solicitor General of the State of Texas Ted Cruz '95, before becoming Solicitor General of the State of Texas, was the Director of the Federal Trade Commission's Office of Policy Planning. He has also served as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice; Domestic Policy Advisor to George W. Bush on the Bush-Cheney campaign; an associate at a Washington, D.C. firm; and a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist.
