HLS Post-Graduate Student Funded Fellowship

Post-Graduate Student-Funded Fellowship is a newly launched fellowship that aims to support the public interest work of HLS graduates with funds raised entirely from donations by students, and in the process, to foster a greater sense of community and philanthropy on campus.

3Ls can choose to donate through the Class Gift, while all classes can participate through fundraising events held on campus, ranging from bake sales to section competitions and through One Day’s Work. Given the brand new nature of this program, Board members would have lots of room to bring their own creativity and ideas to ensure its success in future years.

This Fellowship aims not only to support our fellow students but also to build a greater sense of community on campus, especially during these difficult economic times. Consisting entirely of donations by HLS students, the Fellowship will be given to an applicant with a demonstrated dedication to public interest work and a specific project proposal who has been unable to finding funding elsewhere.

Just a $31 donation (or a dollar a day for a month) from each student on campus would raise enough money to support a law student in carrying out a public interest project for a year. This means so much more than simply funding the work of a fellow classmate---it means providing essential legal services to underrepresented communities and broadening the impact of our class and HLS on the greater community.

To make giving back even easier, and to emphasize the student-led nature of this Fellowship, the Post-Graduate Student-Funded Fellowship is now included as one of the possible beneficiaries of the Class of 2010 Class Gift---simply check off the box!

Completely funding the first fellowship of this kind, and passing on this tradition to future classes, would surely be a great legacy for the Class of 2010.
