HISTORY

africaThe Harvard African Law Association [HALA] was formally recognized as a graduate student organization by the Harvard Law School [HLS] on November 6, 2001.

Prior to this time, Africa was the only region of the world for which there was no student organization at the HLS. The ever-increasing number of continental Africans in the student body of the HLS motivated the establishment of the HALA. It is hoped that HALA will also serve as the nucleus for a future HLS African alumni network.
