Welcome Class of 2010

Dear 1Ls,

Welcome to HLS! HLS for Choice is a student organization committed to promoting women’s health and reproductive rights. Our mission is to educate the law school community and raise campus awareness of the legal status of and challenges to reproductive rights. Our goal is to create forums for political education, legal discourse, and local and national activism in support of a woman’s right to choose. Working often with other progressive groups on campus, we focus on a broad range of reproductive issues including abortion, access to birth control and women’s health care, international reproductive rights, and the development of new reproductive technologies. This year’s past events included, among many others, a talk by Yale Law School professor Reva Siegel on the equality argument for reproductive rights, an event with Harvard Medical Students for Choice to teach the basics of the law and medicine of reproductive rights, a co-sponsored panel on pharmacist refusals to dispense emergency contraception, a lunch with renowned reproductive rights attorney Janet Benshoof in the immediate aftermath of the Gonzales v. Carhart decision, and a talk on sex-selective abortion in the South Asian community.

Whether you’re a seasoned activist or just want to learn what all the fuss is about, if you are interested in reproductive justice HLS for Choice is for you! To join our listserv just email us. No spam, we promise! Just periodic updates about campus events, reproductive justice news, legal developments in reproductive rights, and opportunities to get involved in campus events and activism projects. Welcome to law school, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
