Post-Katrina Poverty Law Challenges
On Saturday, October 28th, the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau hosted a panel discussion on poverty law challenges after Hurricane Katrina, featuring:
* HLS alumnus Charles Delbaum ’71, Director of Litigation and Advocacy at the New Orleans Assistance Corporation
* HLAB alumnus Catherine Bendor ’92, Acting Legal Director of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty
* HLAB alumnus Brooke Abola ’03, contributor to the Appleseed Foundation report, “A Continuing Storm”
* HLAB alumnus Sanetta Ponton ’06, contributor to research for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
* Moderator Rick Glassman, former Managing Attorney of HLAB and Litigation Director for the Disability Law Center
The panelists emphasized the continuing needs of people and organizations on the Gulf Coast, and encouraged audience members to donate their time and money to much-needed relief efforts. The panel discussed Katrina’s devastation, from the immediate aftermath of the hurricane extending into the foreseeable future.
