International Law Society
Statement of Purpose
The primary goal of ILS is to promote awareness of global events and
understanding of diverse legal cultures in order to assess their influence on both public and private international law. Bringing the highest caliber of educational
programs to the Harvard Law School community is central to the ILS mission.
The Harvard International Law Society (ILS) was founded over 35 years ago as a non-profit student organization at Harvard Law School. ILS enjoys a rich tradition of fostering understanding of international legal matters. The organization invites
distinguished legal scholars and practitioners to give lectures.
ILS also sponsors
topical film series, organizes language tables, and hosts seminars and
round table discussion on issues of immediate international concern. ILS
invites international legal practitioners to speak about their careers,
arranges social events, sponsors member participation in career conferences, and generally serves as an on-campus clearinghouse for information regarding international opportunities.
ILS receives only limited funding from Harvard Law School to support its
on-campus educational and professional programs. ILS, a non-profit organization, is dependent upon generous support from outside foundations, law
firms and other entities to support its academic exchanges and study
visits, speaker series, and major conferences.
On Friday, March 3, 2006, ILS presents "International Investment Law at a Crossroads," an all-day seminar featuring many prominent academics and practitioners in the field of international investment law.
