Scales would like to welcome our new 1L members José Davis-Pellot (Fall only), Noam Lerer, Caroline Maxwell, Adam O'Brien (Fall only), Anne Siders, Daren Stanaway, Danielle Tenner (Fall only) and Jane Wang, and our newest Grad School member Adam Muri-Rosenthal (Spring only)!

Modessa Jacobs

Modessa Jacobs, President
Modessa Jacobs is a 2L soprano from Seattle, WA. She has lived in five states and two countries but still knows that Seattle is the best city in the entire world. Scales of Justice is the best and only vocal group that she is been in. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, where she studied German, European History and Jewish Studies. Her other interests include photography and Yiddish literature.

Wen Bu

Wen Bu, Treasurer
Wen is a 3L from Marietta, GA, who isn't quite sure what her voice part is anymore. In addition to singing, she knits and auditions for every theater production she can find and fit into her schedule. Her official background is in chemistry and political science, which she studied as an undergraduate at Furman University (class of 2005).

David Kargman

David Kargman, Business Manager
David is a 3L tenor from Chicago, IL. A theatre major at Northwestern University, David has been singing and performing as long as he can remember and is thrilled to be able to continue while at law school. When he isn't singing or studying, he can be found preaching about the wonders of the windy city, watching too many cartoons for someone his age, or challenging someone to a game of Risk unaware that it is only a game and will not, in fact, make him ruler of the world.

Jesse Grauman

Jesse Grauman, Music Director
Jesse is a 3L bass from New York, NY. He graduated from Yale in 2000 and spent the past four years working in Washington, DC in the U.S. Senate. Jesse has been in a series of various choral and a cappella groups dating back to third grade or so. The highlight of his performance career was probably playing Lumiere in an all-Hebrew production of "Beauty and the Beast" in high school -- because really, once you sing "Be our Guest" in Hebrew, with a French accent, while wearing gold lipstick and paper-mache candlesticks on your arms, you can't really top that. In his spare time, Jesse rides his bike and lives and dies by the fortunes of the New York Mets.

Noam Lerer
Noam Lerer is a 1L from Long Island.  He sang showtunes for four years at Harvard College as a tenor before he saw the light and realized he would really have much more fun singing endless low G's for measures at a time.  Sometimes, he also studied Social Studies.  Noam also likes history, classics, science fiction, games, and wandering aimlessly.
Caroline Maxwell
Caroline is a 1L from Chicago.  She attended Dartmouth College and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Snowmanology.  She was the Business Manager for and sang with the Dartmouth Glee Club, as well as planning Glee Club Spring Break Trip 2007.  She enjoys dogs and low notes.  One day she will ensure that the Harvard Coop will stock dog collars, and not just pet-neutral collars that are secretly only an appropriate width for cats.
Adam Muri-Rosenthal
(Spring Only) Adam is not an L at all.  He is a G2, or, in other words, a second year graduate student at GSAS.  He is currently pursuing a PhD in Italian Studies with a secondary field in Visual and Film Studies.  Scales is his first experience singing with a group, unless you count occasional drunken karaoke companions.  He is a tenor.  Except when he is a bass.  If he looks lost, please tell him what measure he is on.
Adam O'Brien
(Fall Only) Adam is a 1L from Worthington, Ohio.  He attended The Ohio State University, where he studied mathematics and economics.  While at Ohio State, Adam also sang in the Men's Glee Club. Outside of music, Adam's interests include backpacking and playing cards.
Anne Siders
A 1L alto from Duluth, MN, Siders is fiercely proud of her home state and its cold winters, good-hearted people and funny accents.  She's spent the past four years in Boston, studying biological anthropology at Harvard College.  Her spare time is spent reading science fiction, playing rugby for Beantown, or trying to find a bar showing a Twins game.
Daren Stanaway, Music Director (Spring Only)
Originally from Billings, Montana, Daren is a 1L soprano who can't get enough Harvard a cappella; she spent the last four years singing with the Fallen Angels at Harvard College, where she studied Sociology and Government, before joining the Scales of Justice at Harvard Law.  In her (essentially nonexistent) free time, Daren enjoys dancing, running, skiing, and, of course, singing!

Ryan Trinkle
Ryan is a 2L from most areas of the US.  He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Computer Systems Engineering and then came to law school for some reason.  His nonmusical insterests include creating and playing games (digital and physical), inventing programming languages, and arguing about anything with the word "theory" in it.
Jane Wang
Jane is a 1L who claims she's from Taiwan.  A citizen of the world, Jane has lived in Mainland China, Belgium, Canada, the United States, Thailand and Taiwan--not necessarily in that order.  She was a double major in psychology and human biology at the University of Toronto.  She also likes bubble tea, karaoke, dancing in her room, and playing . . . just playing in general.
