Helpful Life Skills - A financial education program for HLS students
We offer many workshops and events every year. Even if you don't receive financial aid, we have a number of workshops such as our "Understanding Your Taxes" workshop and our financial planning sessions that might be right up your alley.
Here's what we're offering during the spring 2008 term!
- Thursday, March 6 @ 12PM in Pound 107: Who Needs Insurance? Maybe You Do!
This workshop will focus on two areas of insurance: life and liability. Come get the tools and advice you need to determine what kind of life and liability insurance you’ll need now or shortly after graduation. (If you are married or have kids, this workshop is definitely for you!) - Tuesday, March 11 to Thursday March 13: Tax Tips for Students (sponsored by University Financial Aid Liaison Office)
If you missed the tax workshops at HLS, Jim Briggs "The Tax Detective" is back. There will be seven workshops across Harvard held over the course of these three days. Please click here for the full schedule. - Wednesday, March 12 @ 12PM in Pound 100: Homebuying After Graduation: A Real Estate Panel Discussion (co-sponsored by Dean of Students)
This workshop will discuss the homebuying process, the buy vs. rent question, and financing options. There will also be time for Q&A. - Thursday, March 13 @ 12PM in Pound 108: Personal Credit and Credit Scores: What You Need to Know!
This workshop will talk about what is considered good credit, what to do if you need to improve or repair credit and how to read your credit report. Questions regarding number of credit cards and their limits will also be reviewed, and much more! Please feel free to bring a copy of your credit report which you can download for free once per year at www.annualcreditreport.com. - Wednesday, March 19 @ 12PM in Pound 100: Financial Planning Fundamentals (co-sonsored by OCS)
Certified Financial Planner Jennifer Lane will be presenting two financial planning workshops talking about budgeting, credit, smart investing, financial goals, and much more! Jennifer is the founder of Compass Planning Associates, author of “The Everything Get Rich” book, and has appeared as the personal finance expert on numerous TV and radio segments. - Thursday, March 20 @ 12PM in Pound 107: Identity Theft: What You Can Do To Avoid It
This workshop will educate you on how your identity can be stolen, and how to protect your identity and your credit standing. - Tuesday, April 15 @ 12PM Ropes Gray: Positive Psychology: How to Succeed and Be Happy at the Same Time
Come to this fun and engaging workshop on the science of happiness. Shawn Achor has been teaching and lecturing on positive psychology for years and his main area of research has been the legal community. Hear how you can be happier in anything you choose to do! - Tuesday, April 22 @ 12PM (Location TBA): Financial Planning Fundamentals (co-sonsored by OCS)
